Glen Foerd aims to make the estate, as well as our programs and collections, available to all. However, our main building is regrettably not fully accessible and has only been minimally altered since the 1930s.
We are committed to improvement and are working to make Glen Foerd accessible to everyone. If you have difficulty accessing content on our website, have accommodation requests related to a disability, or questions about the accessibility of specific programs, please contact us by email. We want to make your visit an enjoyable experience.
Accessibility Lift and Stairs
A wheel chair lift is available for guests to access the first floor of the mansion, where visitors can experience some installations by artists in residence and the building’s gilded age interiors. Unfortunately the basement, second, and third floors are not accessible as there is no elevator. The art gallery, containing most of the exhibited paintings from our historic collection, occupies the second story of the building and is reached by a flight of stairs.
Parking
Parking is available in a lot behind the mansion. A drop-off location at the front porch is also available.
Restroom Facilities
Restrooms at Glen Foerd cannot currently accommodate wheelchairs or walkers.
Grounds Accessibility
Guests are welcome to enjoy Glen Foerd’s grounds every day, from dawn to dusk. The majority of the site is level and grass-covered, but many riverside paths are graveled, and may be difficult to traverse with personal mobility devices.
Service Animals
Trained service animals are welcome throughout Glen Foerd. No pets or other animals are permitted indoors.
Future Accessibility
Glen Foerd is currently planning and fundraising for accessibility improvements, including ADA accessible restrooms and pathways. We are in the process of expanding our self-guided tour to include audio and more resources about our collection. Part of this effort includes documenting and digitizing the art and material culture at Glen Foerd, which will be used in an interpretive program for visitors who cannot navigate the stairs.
Glen Foerd has partnered with Art-Reach to provide discounts to all Pennsylvania ACCESS cardholders. We hope to work with Art-Reach on an accessibility audit in the near future, and to develop a more in-depth accessibility plan.
