Variant 6, a Philadelphia- based vocal ensemble in collaboration with two Miami-based arts organizations, IlluminArts and Dimensions Dance Theater presents, “To Reach the Light”. These multidisciplinary performances will feature six newly commissioned pieces by composers from across the United States and Europe with new original choreography by Dimensions Dance Theatre.

In the summer of 2020, we asked each composer to write a piece based on ideas of transformation, adaptation, growth, and change. The result is six wildly different compositions, each reflecting in some way the composer’s thoughts and feelings from that time. Subject matter ranged from the deeply personal (including words from the members of Variant 6) to more general examinations of grieving and loss.

Variant 6 is a virtuosic vocal sextet that explores and advances the art of chamber music in the twenty-first century. The ensemble's work includes radically reimagining concert experiences, commissioning substantial new works, collaborating closely with other ensembles, and educating a new generation of singers.

IlluminArts was founded in 2013 to present world-class performances of classical music to Miami's vibrant audiences. IlluminArts collaborates with museums, galleries, and other community organizations to present curated, site-specific programs of music.

Dimensions Dance Theater began in 2016 and has been shaking up classical dance culture in South Florida and beyond. Founded by former Miami City Ballet leading principal couple, Carlos Guerra and Jennifer Kronenberg, DDTM debuted to rousing critical acclaim, as a cutting-edge, yet classically based contemporary ballet company.
