Clothing Swap and Upcycling Workshop

  • Glen Foerd 5001 Grant Avenue Philadelphia, PA, 19114 United States (map)

Join us for a clothing swap and upcycling event. Bring your gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories to exchange with others. This event is free, clothing donation is not required, and all ages are welcome. Contributions are appreciated, and swap items on tables will be claimed on a first-come-first-served basis. Glen Foerd will donate any unclaimed items after the event.

Fast fashion has been on the rise, creating immense amounts of carbon emissions, pollution, and waste. Participating in forms of circular fashion such as clothing swaps mitigates the destructive effects of this industry. We are thrilled to have Miss Pennsylvania 2023, Miranda Moore, kick off this event by speaking up for sustainable shopping practices.  A 2021 graduate of the University of Georgia, Miranda earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering.  She is currently in the Executive Certificate Program for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania.  Miranda is a fierce advocate for Take Action in Fashion, where she travels across the state raising awareness for sustainability and how our choices impact the environment.

Visit our free screen printing and embroidery booths to upcycle clothing you brought, or discovered at the swap. Glen Foerd’s Arts & Culture Program Manager, Alice Thompson, will guide attendees through the process of putting a print on clothing or a tote bag.  All materials will be provided, including screens with nature-themed images, blank tote bags to print on (first come/first served), and a variety of inks and embroidery threads.

Enjoy light Snacks + refreshments on the first floor of the Main House and extended open hours for self-guided tours.

This event is designed and marketed by Bloomberg Arts Interns, Navya Nadakuditi and Kona Tarin. Artwork for the screen printing activity is created by Navya, Kona and Alice.
