Residents of Far Northeast Philadelphia:
The Philadelphia City Planning Commission (PCPC) has funding to consider extending the Lower Poquessing Trail. The new extension would run from Junod Playground to Glen Foerd.
The trail will weave in and out of the shaded woods. It connects to destinations like:
Ben Rush State Park,
Philadelphia Community College,
Philadelphia Mills Mall,
Holy Family University, and
Torresdale Regional Rail Station.
It will also connect all the residents and community resources along the way.
Perhaps the most exciting feature, at Glen Foerd trail users will be able to hop on the future East Coast Greenway. The East Coast Greenway is a 3,000-mile trail that will connect Maine and Key West, FL via Philadelphia.
Last September, we had a spirited public Zoom meeting to consider the pros and cons of this trail. We discussed a few alternative routes, trail types, potential users, safety and maintenance concerns, and desired amenities. Your feedback informed the conversations where we further analyzed the trail alignment.
PCPC, in partnership with Parks and Recreation and the state’s Department of Community and Economic Development, will host the second of two interactive public meetings. In this meeting, we will present to you our proposed trail alignment. We invite you to help us refine our report. This report will help our partner agencies estimate the cost of the trail extension. It will also help make the case for funding the new extension.
