Invasive Plants: from Plant, to Paper, to Book

  • Glen Foerd 5001 Grant Avenue Philadelphia, PA, 19114 United States (map)

Join Paper Think Tank for a 2-day workshop where we turn invasive plants into paper!

Invasive plants grow throughout the Philadelphia region, and in this two-day workshop, participants will learn the process of making paper by hand beginning with the plants themselves. On day 1 of our workshop, we will take a walking tour of the grounds at Glen Foerd to identify and collect specimens of various invasive plants suitable for papermaking. We will then learn how the fibers are prepared before being beaten into paper pulp, and we'll form our first sheets of paper. On day 2, participants will spend half the day forming sheets of invasive plant paper (this is a wet process!), and in the second half, we will use premade sheets of plant paper to sew into our very own handbound plant-paper journals.

Tickets to this event include a 2 day workshop from 10 am -1 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Open to all ages and skill levels.
